Comparison of Ramosetron′s and Ondansetron′s Preventive Anti-emetic Effects: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Abstract:

Objective

The aim of this study was to systematicallyand objectively compare the anti-emetic effects of ramosetron and ondansetron on postoperative nausea and vomiting.

Methods

A systematic literature search of MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and the Google scholar were performed to recruit studies compared ramosetron and ondansetron in the treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting.A Meta-analysis(R-3.1.3) was conducted to estimate the effect of different interventions.

Results

A total of 12 randomized controlled trails met the inclusion criteria.The study demonstrates that ramosetron is more effective than ondansetron for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting.

Conclusions

Use of ramosetron is a more effective mean for reducing postoperative nausea and vomiting than ondansetron.
